A Walk Around Walden Pond

Walden Pond was a delightful experience.  We hiked the entire perimeter of the Pond--probably over two miles.  In the course of the hike we saw the site of Thoreau's cabin.  Supposedly, Thoreau's experience at Walden Pond were inspiration for the book, Walden Pond.

Walden Pond is reputedly the book which inspired the conservation movement in America.

Walden Pond is a closed system.  It has no significant inflow stream and it has no outlet.  It is spring-fed and remains at nearly the same level always.

The Pond is used in a variety of ways by locals.  In addition to hikers, we saw swimmers in wet suits, fishermen in the water and on shore.

Walden Pond has special meaning for me. When I was a sophomore at UND I took a psychology class. One of the requested/required readings was "Walden Pond."
We had to give a report on the book we read and I wasn't sure how I did until the instructor (a graduate student) asked me to give my report in front of an auditorium of students
I had never used a mike before but partly because of my naivete I believe I did quite well.
Later, at a party, my instructor thanked me for giving a report that reflected so nicely on him.
It is a fond memory.
