Our first photo is of John Harvard, purported founder of Harvard. Note in the photo, there is a person rubbing his shoe. This is considered to be good luck. While the bronze statue is the usual brownish color, the foot has been polished by luck-seekers to the brightness of a new penny.
The second photo shows Dale, Tom, and Anita with Dan in his office in Barker Hall. Dan presented each couple with his book, Lady Godiva, A Literary History of the Legend.
We walked for miles around the campus while Dan gave us a brief history of Harvard and a number of its buildings. We were extremely by the Widener Library, the Memorial Church, and the Memorial Hall. We also visited the John F. Kennedy School of Government, shortly before scheduled forums on the current economic issues and the vice presidential debate.
The third picture has a unique connection to North Dakota. The chandelier in the picture is made from elk horns attributed to the hunting skills of Theodore Roosevelt, likely from his time in western North Dakota. The chandelier hangs in the remodeled Barker Hall, in a four-story atrium. In the main conference room, Roosevelt's portrait dominates one wall.
